An Apple MacBook Pro 15 inch A1121 Laptop was booked in with over-heating and noisy fan problem. One of the laptop’s fans appears to have weakened and making noise.
Let’s first remove the laptop’s keyboard and touchpad units and have a look inside.
The 2 fans were removed from the laptop. Now we use a computer brush, cleaning oil and air duster to clean them out. In this job, one fan is no longer working properly so it had to be replaced.
That’s only the easy part of this job. We now need to remove logic board from the computer and look at heatsink unit underneath.
Thermal paste has worn out, let’s clean it out.
The same paste has also worn out on logic board, let’s clean it out and apply new paste on all chipsets.
Now we put the logic board back and reassemble fans and other parts. Make sure connections are secured.
Then we assemble the whole laptop and boot up Mac OS X. Using a fan control app, we can see the laptop is now working at the ideal temperature (approx 40-45 degree), both fans are now working quietly and over-heating is no longer a problem.
