Service Description

Is your iMac completely dead, freezing randomly, not showing any display, or refusing to power on? These are often signs of a faulty logic board — the main circuit board that powers and controls everything in your iMac.

Common symptoms of logic board failure include no power, random shutdowns, no video output, USB ports not working, or your iMac getting stuck at the loading screen. Causes may include liquid exposure, electrical surge, overheating, or chip failure over time.

At Safemode, we provide expert logic board repair for all iMac models, including Intel-based systems and the latest Apple Silicon (M1, M3). We repair logic boards at the component level — saving you money and helping you keep your iMac and your data.

Pricing Breakdown

Apple iMac logic board repair typically starts from $450 to $750 and can exceed $950+, depending on the level of damage, iMac model, and whether replacement components or rework on key circuits is needed.

Here’s how the pricing usually breaks down:

  • $450–$550+ → For older iMac models with more accessible boards and common faults (e.g. no power, bad capacitors, or blown circuits). These boards are often easier to repair and have more available donor parts.

  • $750–$950+ → For newer iMacs with Retina displays or T2 security chips, where:

    • Boards are more compact and integrated

    • Failures may involve power delivery ICs, GPU faults, or controller chips

    • Micro-soldering or circuit-level diagnostics are required

    • Parts are more expensive or harder to source

What affects the cost:

  • Model year and logic board design
  • Severity and location of the damage
  • Need for chip-level replacement or repair
  • Time required to test and verify post-repair performance

➡ The lower end of the price range applies to older iMac logic board repairs, while the higher end applies to newer models with compact logic boards and more advanced chips.

Our Process

  • Full Diagnosis – We check for power, display signal, fan movement, and port activity. If the system is completely unresponsive, we trace the issue to the board level using tools like thermal cameras, voltage meters, and schematics.
  • Disassembly – We remove the iMac screen and internal components to safely extract the logic board. This step varies depending on your iMac’s generation and layout.
  • Board-Level Repair – We inspect the logic board under magnification to identify damaged or shorted components, then replace faulty chips, resistors, or power ICs using professional soldering and rework equipment.
  • Ultrasonic Cleaning (if needed) – If the failure was caused by liquid or corrosion, we clean the board thoroughly before repair.
  • Reassembly & Testing – Once repaired, we reassemble the iMac, reapply thermal paste, and test power, display, USB ports, Wi-Fi, and overall system stability.

The Technical Stuff

Logic board design varies significantly across iMac generations:

  • Intel iMacs (2009–2020) – May have modular GPUs, socketed RAM, or separate SSDs, but the logic board still controls everything.
  • Apple Silicon iMacs (2021+) – Use highly integrated boards with soldered memory and SSDs, requiring extreme care during repair.
  • Common failures – Include shorted power rails, blown capacitors, bad GPU or TCON chips, and PMIC (Power Management IC) faults.
  • Display controller circuits – Damage here can result in black screens, flicker, or no backlight, even if the board powers on.
  • Firmware issues – T2-equipped iMacs may also experience logic board problems linked to failed updates or hardware security locks.

We use precise schematics and Apple board repair tools to diagnose and resolve even the most complex board-level faults.

Free quotes are not applicable for computers under third-party warranty or for insurance damage reports, a quoting fee applies in these instances.

The initial inspection takes less than 15 minutes. If it takes longer, we’ll let you know.

Our technician will check your computer details and spare part availablity to give you an estimated completion date. Backing up your data before bringing-in will help reduce the turnaround time.

For most common problems such as RAM, PSU, HDD or SSD replacement, we will complete the service on the same or next day if the computer is brought in in the morning and the part is in stock. However, this is never a guarantee. If the part is not in stock, we’ll need to order it from our suppliers. The delivery time is 1-2 business days for express deliveries, or 3-5 business days for standard deliveries.

For faster turnaround time, it’s recommended to bring in on regular business days, avoid weekends and public holidays.

Unexpected delays may occur. We strictly do not offer any guaranteed turnaround time such as same-day, or 24-hour, or any other deadline guarantee on turnaround time.
