Service Description

Is your MacBook not charging, only working at certain angles, or not detecting the charger at all? A faulty charging port is one of the most common reasons MacBooks stop powering on — and it can lead to serious issues if left unrepaired.

Signs of a damaged charging port include no charging light, flickering LED on the MagSafe connector, loose USB-C connection, or your battery not charging despite using a working charger. This can happen from daily wear and tear, a tripped-over cable, or liquid damage near the port.

At Safemode, we repair and replace MacBook charging ports across all models — from older MagSafe ports to newer USB-C (Thunderbolt) connectors.

Pricing Breakdown

Apple MacBook charging port repair typically starts from $250 to $280+, depending on your MacBook model and how the charging port is integrated into the system.

Here’s how the pricing generally breaks down:

  • $250–$280 → For models where the charging port is a separate component, such as older MagSafe or some USB-C boards that can be individually replaced without major disassembly.
  • $500+ → For newer MacBooks where the charging port is soldered to the logic board or mounted on a board that requires partial disassembly of the entire unit, including logic board removal. This requires a logic board repair instead.

What affects the cost:

  • Charging port type (MagSafe 1, MagSafe 2, USB-C)
  • Whether the port is modular or board-integrated
  • Model design and how difficult it is to access the port
  • Any signs of liquid damage, burn marks, or loose pins

➡ On many newer MacBooks, especially M1 and M2 models, USB-C charging ports are more closely integrated with the logic board, making repairs more delicate and time-consuming.

Our Process

  • Initial Check – We inspect the charging port for physical damage, corrosion, or debris. We also test the charger itself to rule out adapter faults.
  • Model Identification – We confirm your MacBook model to determine whether the charging port is modular (removable) or soldered onto the logic board.
  • Disassembly – We open the MacBook and remove components to access the charging port safely. For some USB-C models, this involves logic board-level work.
  • Port Repair or Replacement – We clean, repair, or replace the charging port using high-quality, compatible parts.
  • Final Testing – We check that the MacBook charges correctly, the battery percentage increases, and that the charging port is firmly secured with no flicker or disconnection.

The Technical Stuff

MacBook charging ports vary across models and generations:

  • MagSafe (L/T-style) – Found on older MacBook Air and Pro models; may fail due to liquid damage or internal pin wear.
  • MagSafe 2 & 3 – Thinner versions used on later Intel and M-series MacBooks; may require board removal for access.
  • USB-C / Thunderbolt – Found on 2016+ MacBooks; can be part of the I/O board or soldered directly to the logic board.
  • Port flex cables – Some models use internal cables to connect the charging port to the board — these can also fail.
  • Liquid damage – Charging ports are often the first component to corrode after a spill near the keyboard or port area.

We test for voltage, port responsiveness, and logic board communication to ensure the issue is fully resolved.

Our Difference

Charging issues can be frustrating and are often misdiagnosed as battery or logic board failures. At Safemode, we take time to test everything properly — so you’re only repairing what’s actually broken.

Our technicians have repaired thousands of MacBooks and understand how each model’s charging system is designed. Whether it’s a classic MagSafe or a modern USB-C port, we’ll repair it cleanly and safely using quality parts.
