Service Description
Cracked your MacBook screen? Seeing lines across the display, flickering, or a completely black screen? Whether it was caused by a drop, pressure damage, or a swollen battery pushing from underneath — screen problems can make your MacBook almost impossible to use.
Common signs of screen damage include visible cracks, vertical lines, ghosting, backlight bleed, or a display that doesn’t turn on even though the MacBook is running. In some cases, it may still show a faint image, or only work when the screen is tilted at certain angles.
At Safemode, we replace damaged MacBook screens using high-quality parts suited to your model — including Retina displays, True Tone panels, and high-resolution LCD or LED assemblies.
Pricing Breakdown
Apple MacBook screen repair typically starts from $350 to $950, with some models costing $1,100 or more depending on the model, year, screen size, and whether it’s a Retina or non-Retina display.
Here’s a breakdown based on screen size and display type:
- $350 – $490 → For older MacBook Retina displays models.
- $590 – $690 → For most 13” MacBook Retina displays. This is the most common range for MacBook Air and older Pro models with Retina screens.
- $850 – $950+ → For 14” MacBook Pro Retina displays — especially those with high brightness and high refresh rates (M1/M2 Pro/Max models).
- $900 – $1,200+ → For 15” or 16” Retina MacBooks, including high-end Intel and Apple Silicon models. These use larger, higher-resolution displays that are more expensive to replace.
What affects the cost:
- Screen type – Non-Retina vs Retina vs Liquid Retina XDR
- Screen size – Larger screens = higher cost
- Model year – Newer models often require newer, more expensive display assemblies
- Touch Bar models – May have more fragile or tightly integrated displays
- Availability of used screens – You may choose a used replacement screen at a lower cost if available, which we’ll confirm before proceeding
➡ In general: the bigger and newer your MacBook is, the more expensive the screen replacement will be.
Our Process
- Initial Assessment – We begin by confirming whether the issue is with the screen, logic board, or display cable. We check for signs of damage, liquid exposure, or swelling beneath the screen.
- Model & Part Check – We identify your exact MacBook model and year to source a matching screen. MacBook displays are not cross-compatible across different models.
- Disassembly – We carefully remove the display assembly. Many Retina models have glued or clipped bezels, requiring special tools to avoid damage.
- Screen Replacement – We install the new screen assembly and connect all display, webcam, Wi-Fi, and microphone cables.
- Final Testing – We check screen brightness, colour accuracy, WiFi connectivity, built-in Apple Hardware Test, backlight uniformity, FaceTime camera, and True Tone (if supported) before reassembling the MacBook.
The Technical Stuff
MacBook screens vary greatly between models:
- Non-Retina vs Retina – Older models use standard LCDs; newer ones use high-density Retina displays.
- True Tone & P3 Colour – Some screens support colour and brightness adjustments tied to ambient lighting.
- Glass-on-display assembly – Most Retina screens are fused to the glass, requiring full assembly replacement.
- 13″, 14″, 15″, 16″ Sizes – Each model has unique dimensions, connectors, and part codes.
- Touch Bar & Display Cable Considerations – Newer models use flexible cables or TCON boards that can fail independently of the screen.
We always use the correct screen type and test for compatibility before installation.
