Service Description

Is your laptop screen wobbling, stiff to open, or not closing properly? It might have a broken or damaged hinge. This is a common issue, especially if the laptop has been dropped, forced open too far, or used for years.

Laptop hinges are the small joints that connect your screen to the base. When they break or come loose, they can cause serious damage to the screen, casing, or even internal cables. If ignored, a broken hinge can make things worse — like cracking the screen or breaking the back cover.

To fix it, we open the laptop, realign or replace the hinge, and repair any damage to the casing or screen area. Some models require custom parts or special tools, so it’s best to leave this to experienced technicians.

Pricing Breakdown

PC laptop hinge repair typically costs between $280 and $350+, depending on your laptop’s model, build, and how badly the hinge is damaged.

Here’s how the pricing usually breaks down:

  • $280–$350 → For laptops with moderate hinge damage, where only the hinge or hinge mount needs to be repaired or replaced. This includes cases where the laptop lid feels loose or misaligned, but the screen itself is still functional.
  • $350+ → If the hinge damage has affected the screen, display cables, or the plastic frame around the screen, the cost increases. In these cases, the screen may need to be replaced, making the repair more expensive.

What affects the cost:

  • Whether the hinge is metal-reinforced or molded into the plastic chassis
  • If the screen, lid cover, or frame are also damaged
  • Laptop design – ultrabooks and slim models often have more delicate hinge assemblies
  • The availability of replacement parts, especially for older or high-end models

➡ Hinge problems should be addressed early — continued use can lead to cracked screens or torn cables, increasing repair costs.
➡ At Safemode, we reinforce or replace hinges using compatible, durable parts — and ensure your laptop opens and closes smoothly again.

Our Process

  • We begin with a visual inspection of the hinge, back cover, and screen for signs of stress, cracking, or separation.
  • The laptop is carefully disassembled to access the internal hinge brackets, screws, and support structures.
  • If the hinge is loose, we secure and realign it with proper tension.
  • If the hinge is broken or stripped, we replace it with a compatible hinge or full hinge set.
  • Cracked plastic parts, like the palm rest or back cover, are repaired or replaced as needed.
  • The laptop is reassembled, and we test the hinge for smooth motion and proper closure.

The Technical Stuff

Laptop hinge designs vary widely depending on brand and model:

  • Single hinge vs dual hinge systems

  • Hinges with or without metal reinforcement

  • Hinges built into the screen back cover or anchored to the palm rest

  • Touchscreen or 360° convertible models require extra care and precision

Hinge issues often come with hidden damage, such as:

  • Broken back cover screw posts

  • Torn WiFi or webcam cables

  • Screen flex cable strain

  • Cracked plastics from years of stress
