Service Description

Is your laptop not turning on, not showing any image on the screen, freezing randomly, or showing no signs of life at all? The issue could be with the motherboard — the main circuit board that connects all your laptop’s parts together.

Motherboard problems can be caused by liquid damage, overheating, power surges, or manufacturing faults. In some cases, it might be a tiny chip or connector that’s failed. These issues are often hard to spot without professional tools and experience.

To repair your motherboard, we run detailed diagnostics to find the exact fault. Depending on the issue, we’ll either repair the faulty component or replace the entire motherboard. This kind of work should only be handled by trained technicians — DIY motherboard fixes usually cause more harm than good.

Pricing Breakdown

Typical prices for PC laptop motherboard repair range from $350 to $450 and more, depending on your laptop model, the specific fault, and how complex the repair is.

Here’s a general breakdown:

  • $350–$450 → For standard motherboard repairs such as fixing power issues, replacing failed chips, or repairing short circuits on mainstream or business laptops.
  • $500–$700+ → For high-end laptops like Dell Alienware, Razer, or Metabox gaming laptops, where the repair involves advanced GPU/CPU-related faults, multiple power rail issues, or hard-to-source components.
  • Some computers are built for high-end gaming or graphic-demanding work, such as certain top-of-the-line Dell Alienware, Dell Precision, HP ZBook laptops. Cost for motherboard repair on these laptops can be well over $700-$1,000+ due to higher cost of the parts.

What affects the cost:

  • Laptop model – Gaming and high-performance laptops have more complex boards
  • Type of failure – Power issues, USB/charging faults, or no display can vary in repair difficulty
  • If the board is repairable or needs partial replacement of major chips (e.g. GPU, PMIC)
  • The time required for micro-soldering or board diagnostics
  • Availability of replacement parts or donor boards

➡ Motherboard repairs are the most complex type of laptop repair and require expert diagnosis and precision soldering.
➡ At Safemode, we perform component-level board repair — saving you money over full motherboard replacement, and often preserving your data too.

Our Process

  • We begin with a complete system diagnostic to confirm the motherboard is the issue.
  • The laptop is disassembled carefully, and all internal components are removed for safe access.
  • If the fault is isolated (e.g. a damaged chip, power circuit, or capacitor), we repair it using professional soldering tools and microscopes.
  • If the damage is beyond repair, we source and install a compatible replacement motherboard.
  • After repair or replacement, we reassemble the laptop and thoroughly test all functions — power, charging, display, USB, keyboard, WiFi, and more.
  • Final testing ensures the laptop is stable and fully functional before we return it to you.

The Technical Stuff

Motherboard faults come in many forms:

  • Power IC or MOSFET failure — laptop doesn’t charge or boot
  • Short circuits caused by moisture or failed components
  • Corrupt BIOS or embedded controller chips
  • Damaged charging ports, USB ports, or connectors
  • Cracked solder joints and damaged traces from heat or age
  • In most cases, your data can be saved
  • PC laptops do not need a working battery to turn on. A working power adaptor is all it needs to turn on. If your PC laptop does not turn on with a working power adaptor, it’s not because of a faulty battery.

Not all motherboards are the same. Some are modular and easier to replace; others are soldered and require precision repair. We handle both.
