Service Description
PC laptop computer screens are made of glass, and they can be easily damaged. Common causes for broken screens are: a drop, a knock on the side or on its rear cover or front, or water spill, or you may have forgotten a paper clip on the keyboard when closing the screen.
When a laptop screen is damaged, its picture can be partially or completely distorted, rendering the computer unusable. The screen picture may flicker, or show lines across the screen, or may go completely blank. Refer to the images on this page for some examples of damaged laptop screens and how we’ve fixed them.
To repair the computer screen, we’ll need to replace it with a new one. Most laptop screens are thin, fragile and delicate. It’s too difficult for most computer users to replace the screen themselves. PC laptop computer screen replacement should be done by experienced professionals.
Pricing Breakdown
Prices for PC laptop screen replacement generally start from $350, but the final cost depends on your laptop’s model, screen type, and resolution. Here’s how it typically breaks down:
- $350–$400 → For entry-level laptops with standard non-touch FHD (Full HD) screens. This is the most common and budget-friendly repair range.
- $400–$500 → For most laptops with touchscreen displays, premium build quality, higher resolution, or higher refresh rates (e.g. 120Hz, 165Hz). Touch screens are more complex and expensive to replace than non-touch panels. Some touch screens might cost $550+ to replace, eg screens with built-in oncell touch matt display that are found in some business-grade PC laptops such as HP ProBook, Lenovo Workstation, Lenovo X or X1 series.
- $500–$700 → For OLED screens, 3K or 4K resolution panels, or thin-bezel screens in ultrabooks, gaming laptops with very high refresh rate (eg 240Hz), and high-end models. These parts are often more fragile and costly.
- $700-$950+ → For new, or rare, or ultra-high-end laptops with high-resolution OLED, touch-enabled 4K screens, or models where the screen is fused with glass or frame components.
Factors that affect pricing:
- Screen size and resolution (FHD vs 4K vs 3K)
- Touchscreen vs non-touch
- OLED vs standard LED LCD: OLED screens are more expensive and more fragile. It requires more experience and delicate installation with higher risk of accidental break on the new screen.
- Refresh rate: the higher the refresh rate, the more expensive the screen is
- Availability of aftermarket or genuine OEM parts
- The labour involved — some laptops require full disassembly of the display assembly
- How new your computer is. If your computer is only a few month old, supply for spare parts is limited which makes it more expensive. Over time, there are supplies in the market which make it more affordable.
➡ In general: the higher the resolution and quality, the more expensive the screen will be to replace.
➡ We only use quality-tested replacement screens from trusted suppliers, and we test everything before and after installation.
Our Process
- Before replacing the computer screen, we first need to test to see if the computer can still boot to Windows. This is to ensure that the computer does not have any further major damage.
- We disassemble the computer base to disconnect its battery from the motherboard. This is to ensure there is no power to the computer to avoid electrical damage during the screen replacement process.
- For many computer models, removing the entire display panel from its base is necessary before replacing the screen.
- If there is a plastic front bezel, we’ll remove it from the screen.
- Depending on how the screen was assembled by the manufacturer, we remove the screen by prying it out from the back cover, or by removing its pulling tape, or by using a heat pad, or by brute force if necessary.
- Once the broken screen has been removed, we double-check the label at the back of the screen to ensure we order the correct replacement screen for the laptop.
- When a new screen is available, we’ll test it by temporarily plugging it into the computer first to make sure the new screen works as expected.
- If everything looks good, we’ll begin final installation, securing the new screen to its back cover.
- Final testings are done to ensure everything still works as expected before final assembly is carried out.
The Technical Stuff
